Rashi ke naam, with meanings
Twelve signs, each with its syllables and a short list of names that actually sound like names.
How to use this page
Find your baby's rashi in the table above, note the starting syllables, then filter the boy and girl lists below. Every name carries a meaning, so you can rule out the ones that do not fit.
A note on transliteration
The same name can appear as Rahul, Raahul or Rahool. The syllable is what matters for the tradition; the spelling is a practical choice about how the name will be written and read.
If the shortlist is thin
Some syllables have far fewer familiar names than others. In that case, families commonly widen to the neighbouring syllable of the same nakshatra, which keeps the tradition while giving you a usable name.
Questions people ask
Are these names only for Hindus?
The syllable system comes from Vedic naming, so the lists are drawn from that tradition. The names themselves are widely used across Indian communities.
Can the rashi change after birth?
No. The Moon sign at birth is fixed. What can change is the nakshatra if the birth time is later corrected.
